When we as a society think that its ok for a 16 year old teen to become pregnant, then I think that something is very wrong. VP elect Sarah Palins daughter brought up the issue of teen pregnancy. Why was it okay for her daughter to parade around like she won some kind of award? Is this the way that our children should view teenage pregnancy?

In Cleveland County, NC the High Schools have Implemented a program called Abstinence until Marriage. They have teenage girls walk around the school with a empathy belly, which is known as the fake pregnant belly. This is due to that fact that NC has a teenage pregnancy rate at 19% above the national average, with Cleveland Countys being higher than that 19%. The program has yet proved to be effective with keeping teenage pregnancy down.

  1. This post is very interesting to me because since i work for the Board of Education, i would like to create a program at the school i work for, to make others and young teenage girls aware about teenage pregnancy. good point on Sarah Palin

  3. Somehow the image of being a parent has been glamourized by movies such as "Juno" and superstars like Jaimie Lynn Spears herself becoming a teen mom. It's not helpful when afterward she is paraded around in entertainment news magazines being described how great her life is. The reality is that being a parent is serious bussiness. Teen pregnancy is also a consequence of the last eight years of abstinace only education that the Bush presidency flaunted and now we see the results of that screwed up policy.

  5. "85% of people get pregnant with birth control" those who do are not usin it correctly which is why that will happend , if girls took it the way your supposed to then it won't happend its a rare case if it does but heres a bigger issue with kids not wearin condoms , std's which can ruin your life much worse than teen pregnancy a child can grow into something great unlike std's or hiv in which nothing good but the regret & knowledge for a lifetime

  6. your blog was very interesting i work for the board of education and there are lots of counsselors that are there to help some of the girls that are in need to just talk and express their feelings. i just wished that they wouldnt think of it as something embarrassing like some of them do, and would take more advantage of the people that do want to help them.
